Established in 2014, CP Matchmaker has been my way of trying to spread the love and give back to the amazing writing community on Twitter.
I myself have been extremely lucky when it comes to critique partners. The amazing ladies I work with are smart, and kind, and thoughtful and they've taught me a lot about the way I write and the kind of writer I want to be.
But not everyone has that same support. CP's can be HARD to find sometimes, and a lot of writers don't even know where to look.
That's something I'd like to try and remedy.
Getting great feedback from other writers is the #1 thing that helped me on my journey from newbie-writer-nobody to an agented author. You can only learn so much on your own, and having the support of other writers along this very hectic, stressful path we've chosen is absolutely invaluable.

And that is where CP Matchmaker comes in! #CpMatch is a Twitter party like #Pitmad, but rather than pitching your book to agents, you're pitching it (and your critique style) to potential critique partners! This is the six or seventh time I've run the party and more and more people have participated in each round. (Thanks in part to the WONDERFUL support I've had in spreading the word to the writing community, so a huge thank you to everyone who has and will continue to do that.)
Okay, so here are the details:
What you're going to need:
1. A Twitter pitch (to include the #CPMatch hashtag)
*This is also great practice for pitch contests like #PitMad.
(Which is where I first connected with my agent!)

2. A graphic (see below), should you choose to spread the word and get more people involved. (Which you absolutely should, because the more people who know about the event, directly impacts how many people participate and betters your chances of finding more amazing matches! So share share share!)
3. And a few labels (If you wish to use them.)
For the purpose of easy identification, you can also include (abbreviated for Twitter convenience) a little about your critiquing style, so you can match not only on concept alone, but by the specific brand of feedback you can offer.

On the day of the event, tweet your pitch!
(Just ONCE please! Everyone scrolls, and there's never SO MUCH traffic that any of the tweets get lost, don't worry!)
Then all you have to do is spend some time on the feed and read the pitches yourself! If anything looks interesting, message or tweet at the writer and get to know each other a little better. See what you each have to offer, ask about each other's books, see if you mesh well.

And I can't stress this enough: SWAP A SAMPLE CHAPTER
You'll know if you're a good fit for each other until you see their feedback first hand. They might be the funniest/nicest/coolest/whateverest person on the planet... and still not match up with what you need in a critique partner.
And that's about it! Pitch, read, message, and swap. Simple as that!

If there's something you're unclear about, ask me. Have a few extra label ideas? Let me have em! I am totally up for any suggestions here. I want every round of CP Matchmaker to be as helpful as possible.
And on that note: SPREAD THE WORD.

I can only help facilitate matches for those who participate. Again, when loads of people pop in to pitch, your chances of finding great CP's rises exponentially!
Help me, help you find your CP soulmates.

I've also made a few info graphics. Feel free to use them in blogs, Tweets, whatever!

So glad you're doing this! Thank you for getting this going so quickly. Can't wait to see the pitches on Monday!
ReplyDeleteAw, you're welcome. Honestly, I'm just thrilled it's taken off like it has. I'm very excited to help out my fellow authors.
DeleteWhen is the next CP matchmaker party? I missed the one in July.
DeleteMegan,
ReplyDeleteThis was such a great idea. I'd wondered how to go about meeting writers to CP and Beta read and Monday's 12-hour session was great. I've got a few potential CPs already. It's exciting and fun to share work with others. Thank you SO much!
Ann
You're so very welcome. I'm really pleased with how the day went.
DeleteMegan,
ReplyDeleteI've been ripping my hair out trying to find a CP. Thank you for doing this I look forward to Monday and most def. I will help spread the word.
Thank you Paula! That's so nice of you! :-)
DeleteAmazing! Already retweeted. :)
ReplyDeleteMegan, is this mainly for YA authors or is anyone welcome to search for a CP? I write erotic romance and am published. Have had CPs in the past and would love to have one or two or possibly even a little group of like-minded authors to swap chapters/ideas with. :)
ReplyDeleteCP Matchmaker is for EVERYONE. Any genre, any level of completion. :-)
DeleteMegan,
ReplyDeleteParticipants in #CPMatch only tweet once, correct?
Sorry I didn't see this in time, but no. Participants can follow usual Twitter party etiquette and tweet a couple times an hour. :-)
DeleteI'm late to the party, but very glad everyone hasn't left. Looking forward to eventually joining in. Thank you Megan!
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome!!
DeleteThis is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing blog that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free.
ReplyDeleteIt would be beneficial who are looking perfect match...thank for sharing!
Wow, this is great! Thank you for putting this together. I've had luck finding some really amazing Betas, and I've enjoyed giving them feedback on their MS as well.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to join your event. I'll make sure to spread the word on Agentqueryconnect.com and my twitter. :)
Hi, Megan! Thank you so much for organizing this. To participate, do our manuscripts need to be finished? My WIP should be ready for a CP around October.
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing and I'm definitely going to participate. I'm new to the whole Critique partner thing so this will be a great opportunity to hopefully get the ball rolling. Thanks for hosting!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm looking forward to this.
ReplyDeleteHi! Thank you for organizing this =) Are we allowed to pitch more than one ms? I currently have one in the CP stage and another in the beta reader stage and am looking for matches for both.
ReplyDeleteLate seeing this comment! Beta readers and CP's are used across your work! So you could go ahead and pitch both, or you could also say you're "Looking for a CP for my thrillers, One circus clown inspired detective thriller and one MG about Sasquatch" or something along those lines and pitch to find someone for both. A good CP will want to work with you because of your WRITING, not necessarily just the subject matter, so they'll be with you for most, if not all, of your projects. :-)
DeleteIs it all right to use this event to find an alpha? I have some parts of the first chapter sketched out, but the subject matter is sensitive, and also, I think best when I can bounce ideas off someone more knowledgeable.
ReplyDeleteOf course! That's kind of the nature of a CP anyway. I swap ideas and tentative first chapters with mine all the time! Good luck!
DeleteWhat a fab idea. I have so far only managed to get betareaders through repeated asking on Goodreads and Twitter (and only found two matches). Would love to take part if I can. Don't have anything to swap yet, but would be happy to do the reading now and swap mine later.
ReplyDeletehow can i check my kundli matching with my bf by name. i want to do love marriage, please tell me kundli matching proces by name. my name is anjali and my boy friend name is varun. give me full details of kundli matching by name.
